Your master bedroom decor should be superior to the decor used in the other rooms of your house. The master bedroom is the room you can splurge on, since this is where you will be spending your time to relax and reenergize your body. If you are short on ideas, simply jot down all of your thoughts. Eventually, you will have a solid enough foundation to start working on a wholesome design. If possible, sketch the designs on paper as soon as they come to mind. This is a great way to keep track of all the elements you wish to have included in your design.
Here are a few things to keep in mind when working on your master bedroom decor:
- The color of the walls. Be sure to choose a color that you like, and that has calming properties. Neutral colors are best for bedroom decor.
- The size of your room. Adjust the items in your room to allow for freedom of movement. Stick to only pieces of furniture that are relevant to your life and avoid hoarding. Excess does not necessarily mean comfort. Your design must take into consideration how much space is available, and how many items you can fit into the space comfortably.
- Pay attention to the lighting. Lighting is extremely important in any room. Bedrooms with good lighting will help to set the mood for relaxation. Try to install lights that have a dimmer. The dimmer will assist you in adjusting the intensity of the light in the room. Consider task lighting in additional to your overhead lights. If you are someone who enjoys reading, a bedside lamp is recommended.
- Consistent furniture pieces. Your furniture should be a reflection of your chosen design style, and vice versa. If you have chosen a contemporary design, then your headboard, dresser, chest of drawers and accessories should reflect that. Although it isn’t mandatory to choose matching pieces, there should be some similarities, whether in color or material from which the furniture is made.
